Rockmelt - a browser with SM functionality built in

rockmelt logoI first heard about Rockmelt from Mari Smith on Facebook. (who is a great person to follow, especially if you want to learn about Facebook by the way).

It’s a new browser and it integrates social media right into your browsing.  I gave it a try, and for someone who has been stuck on Firefox and only Firefox for a long time I didn’t expect to be converted.

But I was.

The browser is built on Chrome, so if you’re a Chrome user you will likely already like it.

What it then does is integrates things like Facebook and Twitter right into your browser.

Watch this video for a good overview.

Some of the things I like best about it are:

- I can have my favourite blogs and sites appear down the sidebar and it lets me know when there are updates - kind of like a mini RSS reader, which I clearly need!

- I can drag and drop content to share on Facebook and Twitter really easily, whether on my wall, someone else’s wall, in a message, or in a tweet.

- There is a read later functionality that lets me save web pages that I want to read but don’t have time for, to read later.

- There is an accompanying iPhone app - particularly handy for those read later pages.  I often save the pages on my browser and read them on my phone while stuck waiting somewhere.

All in all, I’m a happy convert.

How about you? Have you tried Rockmelt? What’s your favourite browser?
